"Happenings at the Olde Square Inn"

New Winery, Renovations & More

We are excited because there is a new winery arisen from the fields and they have opened!

Welcome to The Vineyard at Grandview located in Mount Joy PA

This is three great wineries within a half hour of the inn.  Nissley Vineyard, The Vineyard at Grandview and Waltz Winery.

A weekend in Mount Joy PA is filled with activities.

The wineries, Bubes Brewery, a massage at the spa, dinner at the Accomac Inn located on the beautiful Susquehanna River.

Small weddings are going to start off the season and we are excited they have chosen us for their venue!

The spring flowers are peeking out of the ground and we are cleaning up those gardens.

New draperies in the Antebellum.

The Carriage House has beautiful new coverlet and pillow shams that I love.
A stunning new mirror and last but not last a horse picture that share the spirit of the horse.

The pool will soon be getting its cover off and the season will begin.

New urns adorn the front of the inn that will be filled with flowers in the near future.

Where can I still get a Lime Rickey, Vanilla Coke and great food? Hinkles Pharmacy in Columbia

"Hinkles Pharmacy"

Third and Locust Street
Columbia PA

I know what you are thinking...what does a pharmacy have to do with food?  A whole bunch!

Hidden gems dotted in small towns is one of my favorite discoveries.

When I travel I always ask the locals where they eat because you usually can't go wrong.

The history of Hinkles goes back to 1893 and that alone tells you they are doing something right.

At Hinkles you can still sit at the counter and order a lime rickey, vanilla or cherry coke.
Their food is excellent and very reasonably priced.
Susquehanna Salad is one of my favorites.  Choose from tuna, chicken or egg salad, on top of a bed of lettuce, red beets and a red beet egg sliced to the side.  I love it.

Hinkle's is the only place I know you can order a red beet egg sandwich with lettuce and mayo.  Yum....

Breakfast is tops, especially the strawberry crepes.
For those that are gluten free they have offerings for you also.

A sweet little gift shop awaits you and changes with the seasons.  Always something to catch your eye.

Best of all when you walk in or out of Hinkle's you get a view of the Susquehanna River.

Check out our blog on Burning Bridge Antique Center located across from Hinkles.  It is a gem.

Bube's Brewery, Catacombs Dining, Feast and the Biergarten

"Bube's Brewery"

located in

Mount Joy PA

Bube's is such a unique venue and quite honestly I know of none other like it.

Alois is for the fine dining or wedding reception.  It reminds of a step back in time when there was grandeur in the hotel's of the west.

Then there is the Murder Mysteries where the actors and actresses become someone else and don't vie from that person.  My guests have loved their experiences at the Murder Mysteries.

We had a guest who had no idea that the Christmas Santa Claus was going to have her sit on his lap and presented her with the engagement ring she had longed for quite a while.  A night to remember!

This was quite the breakfast conversation.

Then you have the Bottling Works and of course the lovely Biergarten which is my favorite.

Best but not least is the Catacombs where you enjoy fine dining by candlelight "down under".

Burning Bridge Antiques Market, Home of the Treasured Antique

"Burning Bridge Antiques Market"

Walnut Street

Columbia PA

When I first saw the windows of the Burning Bridge Antiques Market I thought "wow this is like Macy's windows". Only these windows are done with history, architecture and antique gems pulled together to make a grand picture in the massive storefront windows.

You can meander for hours in this neatly organized market peeking into all of the nooks and crannies to find that hidden treasure.

One of my favorites is the stain glass windows.  I am always curious where they came from, a church, abroad, local.

I have collected stained glass for years and never tire looking for that special piece of glass.

When your done at the antique market don't forget to go to Hinkles and get your fountain vanilla coke. But that is another story..............

Noah at Sight and Sound Theater

I have seen most of Sight and Sound's productions.

While they are all excellent I enjoyed Noah the best.

Without giving the story away I will share just a couple of the memorable moments to entice you to come and see "NOAH".

It is when all of a sudden the ark appears on each side of the theater and you think
"oh my gosh, such a work of art".

The technical side of the production is unbelievable.

On my first time of seeing Noah I thought this is as good if not better than a Disney production.

Go and enjoy, see what comes down the aisle two by two on your side of the aisle.

A Taste of Wineries with Tour De Tank 2013

Tour De Tank

March 2-30, 2013

Imagine a day of wandering through the back roads of York County and Lancaster County for the Tour De Tank.

You will take in the beautiful architecture of homes, farms, horses and the countryside while meandering to your winery.

Don't forget to check out the Lancaster Wineries also.

We hold Waltz Winery in high esteem and they have gotten rave reviews.

A judge stayed at the inn and said "I am not sure she meaning me, innkeeper really knows what good wine is."
The judge has a wine cellar with ordering wines from Europe and California.
She came back to the inn and said "you do what you are talking about, I bought a case because it was excellent".

We take seriously who we recommend because we know your experience will be an excellent one.

Ameircan Quilt Society in Lancaster PA

MARCH 13-16, 2013

Can you imagine all the hands and tiny stitches that went into making a quilt?

The hours could be hundreds and the patience of Job.

Creating the art of a quilt is a time of possible fellowship, or a time of quiet, just you and your project coming to life on the material chosen for the canvas.

Quilting has survived for hundreds of years and many of those quilts may have a story that goes with them.

Here in Lancaster County quilts were hung from the lines a certain way to tell a slave whether it was safe for them to come into the home that was being used for the Underground Railroad.

Quilts provided the warmth when there was no heat or the comfort of knowing a loved one made the quilt and it is now wrapped around you.

Come to the Lancaster Convention Center where your you will be awed by the workmanship and gathering of kind spirited souls.

Where Amish and English come together for a "Mud Sale"

Gordonville Fire Company

Mud Sale

March 9, 2013

Gordonville Fire Company will host their mud sale on March 9, 2013 starting at 8:30 am.

A mud sale brings the community together to benefit the local fire companies that are usually volunteer with English and Amish folks who man the fire company.

Who are the English?

That is us who are not Amish.

I love mud sales because of the uniqueness of the gathering of the English and Amish for a specific cause.

You won't find more delicious food anywhere.
Pots of  chicken corn soup, hot dogs, apple dumplings, just waiting to satisfy your appetite.

Check the recipe for REAL Amish Chicken Corn Soup.  Only the best is made with frozen corn harvested from the field, locally grown!

We found are cute chicken barn there last year.  An adorable red barn, windows, electric and on wheels so I can move it around from place to place.

Can't wait to lift the lids on the nesting boxes to collect my eggs in the morning!  I just need to order my chickens yet.

There will be over 640 quilts at this sale.

So get your muckers on because it could in fact be muddy and enjoy the day of food, people, horses and whole lot more!
